We started off at a huge memorial (this is only a small part of it) dedicated to the Pioneer Mormons who came across the plains in search of a place to settle away from the persecution of Protestant Christians in Nauvoo, Illinois. Bringham Young led them here, to the Salt Lake Valley, and declared, "This is the place!" Thus, this memorial is literally called This Is The Place Memorial. How clever.
